Setting a wedding date is an important event. For many, this blessed day is a time of excited anticipation—as well as feverish planning. The expectation is that everything looks and be perfect. And the smile is no exception.
As one of those celebrated occasions where the memories made are both lasting and important, the “picture perfect” smile is highly prized at weddings.
It is why more and more brides- and grooms-to-be that are looking to flash the perfect smile on their wedding day are now adding “orthodontists” as a line item in their wedding budget.
“Why?” you might ask. The question is “why not”? With the amounts of money often spent on weddings—and more specifically the wedding photos—budgeting the extra for orthodontic work seems like a logical step (and the perfect time) for being both ready to show the pearly whites as well as enjoying the long-term benefits of aligned teeth and a correct bite.
Choosing the type of braces (as well as orthodontist) is an important consideration. The cost for braces is usually dependent on the orthodontist’s location well as which style of braces that will be used. Two of the more popular options are:
Incognito Braces —
As they can be used to adjust a broader range of malocclusions while remaining hidden from plain site, this is often the smarter option for brides and grooms. Fitted on the lingual side (or back) of the teeth, if the treatment is ongoing for the wedding, they won’t be visible in the photos.
Not all orthodontists are certified to fit Incognito braces though, so prospective brace wearers will have to identify an orthodontist that does fit Incognito braces. Orthodontic Associates is recognized as a Center of Excellence for Incognito braces, and is only one of two in Maryland that is.
Invisalign Braces —
This is an increasingly popular option. Being transparent and removable they are a good choice for people that don’t want the adjustment process documented on film. However, they have a smaller scope of malocclusions that they can effectively and completely fix so they might not be a match for some wearers.
Time sensitivity is also a factor when planning to have that smile you want in your wedding pictures. Most orthodontic adjustments average from 1-2 years. Accounting for this, those interested in getting the perfect wedding smile should consider contacting an orthodontist as early as possible in the planning process.
